High School Senior Essay Contest
Our Senior Essay Contest was established in 1966 to provide our graduating students an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussion on current events. This contest is open to any senior currently enrolled in an Oklahoma Public School. Local 1st through 5th place winners will receive a certificate. State winners 1st through 15th will receive a certificate and a cash prize, and the funds are for the winners to spend as they wish! Each year, a new topic is selected that will truly challenge the seniors to think about the impacts of culture on our everyday lives. By engaging them in this writing exercise, we hope that students will demonstrate proficiency in expressing observations, thoughts, and conclusions logically and professionally. Our local lodges are dedicated to honoring graduating seniors and engaging with the local community while steadfastly engaging their commitment to education.
The 2024-2025 SENIOR ESSAY topic is:
Presidential elections often include language filled with vitriol. When, if ever, does the quest to win an election at any cost outweigh the damage and disunity created by attack ad campaigns?
Contest Details:
- Any high school senior attending an Oklahoma public school may enter. Only one entry per student is allowed.
- Essays must be submitted using only .pdf format; no other format will be accepted.
- The deadline for submission is October 31, 2024.
- Essays must be no more than 1,250 words, and APA or MLA Style should be used. The word count does not include the Works Cited/Reference page.
- The essay must be typed and double-spaced. Handwritten essays will not be accepted.
- Essays must be in English.
